The dogs are mostly Newfoundlands, Labradors, and Golden Retrievers, all natural swimmers. They are trained to notice signs of drowning and can even rescue a drowning person on their own. These dogs can pull up to three people at a time! Italy's National Civil Protection Agency runs the program with a league of 70 dogs.
