Speaking of Christmas gifts...

My friends over at Petside.com have put together a list and slideshow of the top ten pet gadgets for this holiday season. Shown here is the "puppy bumper" which will prevent those sneaky little dogs from wiggling through gates and fences. Thankfully, my head is big enough that my person doesn't have to consider putting me in one of these. They also profiled a telescopic poop-scooper, so that you don't need to bend down, or even touch your dog's poop. Don't miss the "Kitt-in-a-box" which is an attachment for your desk so that your small dog or cat can lounge next to your keyboard while you type. The dog walking utility jacket contains 11 features just for your walking duty--including leash clips and a poop bag dispenser. On a related note, Petside.com also has an article on accessories to keep your nighttime winter walks safe. Items include reflective collars and leashes, blinking tags, and lighted fetch toys. All of these things also make great dog gifts. Hint. Hint.

The Wigglebutt Inn

A new hotel opened in Naples, Florida, but it is just for dogs. The Wigglebutt Inn is a 4,800 square foot daycare and boarding facility with all kinds of amenities. In addition to some very fun sounding indoor and outdoor group play areas, dog have private lounging areas to relax on a plush bed. There are even three deluxe suites where dogs can watch Animal Planet on their very own TV!

Safety is important at the Wigglebutt Inn too. All the dogs have to endure a 3-hour temperament test to make sure they will get along with the rest of the pack. The employees are trained in K9 CPR and there is even a live in overnight caretaker. Of course, they offer grooming, dog parties, and a gift shop too.

Sound like a great place...so great that they display a disclaimer at the door, "“We have no responsibility or legal liability if your dog doesn’t want to go home.” But we always want to come home, I promise.

Chilly beds for cool dogs

Last weekend, my person wanted to sit outside all day on her balcony to enjoy the fall weather, but I was feeling chilly, so I stayed inside on the sofa. But some dogs get chilly really easily even when they are in the house. They may have a medical problem like poor circulation that makes them feel cold, the house may be drafty, or they might just be plain chilly! Being chilly can also aggravate some other conditions like arthritis. Small dogs and those with short hair get cold more easily without the extra benefit of an undercoat that fluffier breeds have.

Tipster Clarabelle used to be cold all the time, always hiding under the covers or snuggling up next to her buddy, Buddy, but she could never get warm. Sometimes being cold would make her arthritis worse, and she would be stiff in the morning.

Well, Clarabelle & Buddy's person took action. The pair now love their ChillyDog Snuggle Bed. (They are pictured here keeping cozy). This thing is like a deluxe sleeping bag for dogs, but it has a hoop sewn in the top so that it is easy to get in and out. How cool is that? These beds can also make your pup feel safe and secure-they make especially great hiding places during thunderstorms! Plus, we look super cute curled up in our fleece nests.

Snuggies for dogs. Seriously.

If you stay up late you probably have seen the infomercial for the Snuggie--the blanket with sleeves. Snuggies now have a cult-like following. To capitalize on this popularity, the creators designed a Snuggie for dogs. Seriously.

Creators said that Snuggie owners would no longer have to deal with "jealous glances" from their dog who was Snuggie-less. They are already for sale online, and will hit the stores next month. In case you were wondering, I will not be getting one.

Flying is no longer just for birds

Check out this new airline--PetAirways, just for us pets! Before, flying in the cargo hold with all those suitcases seemed pretty scary, but this sounds like a huge improvement. They are partners with Best Friends Animal Society, so that makes me think good things about them already! Read about it here, or check out their youtube commercial.

Microchips & Tools

Get this--you can use a stud finder to detect microchips in dogs! I bet you are skeptical, I was too. I asked my person to check to see if our stud finder could find my microchip. It worked!

My microchip has anti-migration technology, so it will always be on my back. But if you are looking for your microchip that may have moved...just have your person grab the stud finder!

On a related note, I am really glad my person decided to get me my own microchip last year...that way if I ever get lost, I know I will find my way home. Tell your person to ask the vet about getting your own microchip, it doesn't cost much money, but it buys a lot of peace of mind.
