Aussie pig-pup duo

Police recently picked up an unlikely pair or Aussies: a dog and a pig!  This pair was found wandering the streets of Whittlesea, Australia.  Authorities were pretty sure they must have come from the same home.  According to Leading Senior Constable Mick Hall "They act like a pair of pork chops when you try to separate them...They're lying all cuddled up together on the front lawn waiting for their owners."  Thats right--they need to find the home that these two came from! It seems like it should be easy enough to figure out who is missing a dog AND a pig.  But if they don't, I hope this adorable duo can find a new home together.

You can check out the whole story, including contact info for the authorities holding the pair at News.com.au, and thanks to Life With Dogs for the image.

A laser focus on his forever home

After just a month with his new family, three year old Laser got spooked by some fireworks and slipped out of his leash.  The family was on vacation nearly 50 miles from their Canada home and spent days canvassing the area and hanging up flyers.  Sadly they had to go home without there four legged family member.

Laser had finally found his forever home, and he determined to make sure he didn't lose it again. The LePage family kept receiving tips from people who saw Laser on the move, and 6 weeks after the scary fireworks display, a good samaritan dropped him off at the shelter just over a mile from their home.  Laser had found his way nearly the whole 50 miles on his own!  This is especially amazing since he had only been with the family for a short time and probably didn't know the area so well--but he was determined to hold onto his new pack.  The happy family has since been reunited and I bet Laser will be sticking close by his two young human siblings. Check out more one this amazing story, a map of his trek, across Canada and a family picture on CBC.ca.

Speaking of awesome Canadians, have you visited my friends over at Fido & Wino lately?

The strays of Moscow

The very first story I wrote was about the strays of Moscow that have learned to ride the subway. Apparently the strays of Moscow are pretty famous. MoscowTimes.com has a great slideshow about these smart but homeless mutts getting by on the street. They estimate that 30,000 dogs live on the streets of Moscow, so they are a staple in the scenery. They have learned to ride the metro, and even wait for a green light to cross the street! Somehow they even survive the cold winters. Lots of them live in packs, but some have buddied up with a homeless human and work the begging circuit together. Check out the whole slideshow linked above--25 pictures of the city-savvy mutts!

Lost for a YEAR

Teddy was lost for a year! Poor guy managed to get by on what he could find, probably even eating out of dumpsters. Some very dedicated shelter workers had seen him roaming the area and hoped to get him to roam right into the shelter (with a little help from bacon and spam, mmmm, bacon). But it worked, and now Teddy is back! They are helping him recover from his time on his own, but he will be up for adoption soon.

Saved from a 7-foot gator!

This Wheaten Terrier Mandy found herself in the jaws of a 7-foot gator in her own back yard. Yikes! His owner didn't run away, but ran to the gator to save his best friend. He used his hands to pry open the jaws of the gator, and Mandy got away with minor injuries. Mandy's person lost two fingers in the ordeal, but says he would do it again if he had to. What a hero!

A rough ride

This Boston Terrier, Ali was rafting with his people in Oregon when everyone went overboard! Oh no!

His bigger buddy, Duke, a pit bull mix, was able to swim to safety right away, but Ali had a rougher ride. He floated through two rapids before getting out of the water and then had to survive the night--where he had to hide from the cougars and bears living by the Blossom Bar rapids in Lower Rogue River Canyon. When Ali found his people the next day, he still has his life vest on!

Both dogs had life vests on, which surely helped save their lives. Remember, life vests are not just for kids--adults AND dogs need them especially in rough waters!

Watch out for coyotes in Canada!

Up in Canada, this dog Duke was separated from his person and was hiding scared from coyotes that were hunting him. Yikes! Then a nice bus driver came by and saved him. The bus driver could see the coyotes stalking Duke, and opened her door and the very scared dog knew it was his chance at safety!

Passengers on the bus helped Duke relax until the bus driver finished her route, and was reunited with her person later that day.

Thats one smart dog, and one very nice bus driver. I've always heard the people are nice in Canada, but look out for coyotes!

Commuter Dogs

Check out these smart city dogs that learned how to ride the train! Since we work in packs, we make sure no one misses a stop. It must be so fun to ride the train…so many people so many smells…

Check them out!
